Acute and delayed consequences of vitamin D intoxication: two case reports

Background: Vitamin D intoxication (VDI) is a rare cause of kidney injury, but it can have fatal consequences. We would like to present two cases patients in whom high doses vitamin intake led significant health problems. Case Presentation: The first case 68-year-old woman taking approximately 20,000 IU daily. On admission, laboratory tests showed elevated renal function parameters, hypercalcemia, and serum concentration. second was 71-year-old man intoxicated with half years earlier, as consequence the patient included chronic hemodialysis program. Because potentially reversible disease – signs tubulointerstitial nephritis persistent concentration, attempt withdrawal made, steroid therapy administered, without expected effect. Discussion: A problem supplementing medical supervision. It estimated that number people U.S. population takes more than 4,000 per day. These are been linked numerous benefits by unverified sources, even though recent scientific studies able refute some these claims. Based on we presented, want emphasize how serious consequences be. Conclusions: may acute lead end-stage failure require replacement therapy.
